[She should get her wish, it's the kind of place they hoist the meat from grill to bread with a shovel. Dick's dressed to fit the establishment, jeans and a worn looking t-shirt under a thick jacket. He leans against the window reading 'All Meat All Day' to wait for her, nodding when she arrives.]
I didn't get you a card, but if you'll write one for me I can buy you your meal.
[ harley's definitely not on time, which should be expected, but she also knows how to make an entrance, shuffling in with the hood of her poofy jacket flipped up over her pigtails, still showing off a fair amount of leg between the short hem of her skirt and her fishnets descending into bright pink converse but seemingly unbothered by the cold otherwise.
when she spots dick she bounds up to him, a series of skips, the soles of her shoes skidding across the pavement, and skids to a stop inches away from bumping into him directly. ]
Yeah, but I mighta lost a card, so. [ she doesn't hesitate to fling her arms around him, giving him a brief squeeze. ] How do you always smell good?
[This is why he'll always keep a space in his heart for Harley - the girl he met here. Unlike most of the clowns he's met, she can make him smile every time. He's grinning by the time her toes bump up against his, more when her arms wrap his neck.
There's a little squeeze in return. He lifts her until the tips of her converse drag the ground before carefully setting her down.]
I don't know, Harl. Must be something in the water. How's the birthday girl?
[ she keeps her arms draped around his neck for a few seconds before her hands slide down the length of his arms to take hold of his, her pale fingers sporting rings on just about every knuckle, her nail polish more than appropriately glittery and not even slightly chipped. when she's not in the middle of kicking ass, harley quinn actually looks somewhat put together. ]
Clearly better, now that you're here. You ready to unhinge that jaw for one of these sammies?
[ she's definitely going to keep holding his hand as they divert inside the shop, because if this is their designated date time she's the kind of girl who's going to take advantage of all the bells and whistles attached. that, and she's never shied away from casual affection, especially directed towards someone she's incredibly fond of. ]
[As if he was planning on letting her go. He tugs her into the shop with him, just pausing to hold the door and let her in under his arm. The air's thick with smoke and if he smelled like himself before, he's going to smell delicious by the time they leave.
Letting her in front of him at the counter, he rests a chin on her shoulder as they order - nodding twice to the suggestions of extra meat, then telling the server it's Harley's birthday as he motions to them to stack it higher.
Pretty soon they're walking out with sandwiches as high as she is.]
I've been wanting to catch up with you - sorry for being a stranger.
[ it's the kind of smoke that's thick enough to make her eyes water but also her mouth too, the scent of grilled meat and other cooking things only prompting her to think about how long it's really been since she's eaten. (truthfully, not that long, but in spite of her size, harley can really put away an impressive amount of food.)
all this is to say that by the time they're in and out and she's got a sandwich that's almost as tall as her head, dick's earned himself a very happy quinn. ]
All that Down patrollin' really eats up your free time, huh? [ she's able to gently clock him with a bump of her hip against his without breaking her stride β or dropping her sandwich, for that matter. ] Y'know, you could still swing over and see me one of those nights, no problem. That one skylight's always been a little loose.
[Dick unwraps his sandwich carefully, tilting both the meal and his head as he considers the right angle of approach. It's a short stroll to the park, and that's the direction he picks as they leave.]
Which is something I should probably examine, honestly. I'll come by more, promise.
Well, then whatβs got you so tied up these days? You can tell me. Iβm all ears.
[ bear in mind sheβs saying all this after having taken a huge bite of her sandwich, meaning that only every other word might be distinguishable, and she isnβt even thinking about how she might have a little russian dressing on the edge of her mouth either. a polite eater this girl is not. ]
βCause I donβt want you runninβ yourself so hard either. I know you. You canβt help lookinβ after everyone else, but whoβs got you in mind?
